JINは同アルバムを通し、BTSのJINからはこれまで見られなかった、一味違う魅力を放つ。
同名のタイトル曲「The Astronaut」は、物静かなアコースティック・ギターと徐々に盛り上がっていくシンセ・サウンドの調和が印象的な曲で、JINがARMYに対する愛情を込めて手掛けたものであり、目的地なく流れていた「僕」のすべての夢を見つけ出させてくれた人たちのことを「君」に例え、表現した。相手に対する深い愛情が滲み出る歌詞が目立つ中、JIN特有の豊かな感性が爽やかながらも幻想的な曲の雰囲気を高める。
